Tour packages also include all-inclusive excursions (a fridge to take to the island with water and food) that you can perfectly hire in the same port of Gran Roque for about 100 and 150 bolivars. In addition, the packages only include the closest islands Madriski and Franciski and, although beautiful, you miss the best of Los Roques that is offshore.
We arrived with a previously purchased three-day package of accommodation and with the return day extended to five days. It was high season and since we were paying a whopping 450 euros per person, we decided to extend the stay and find accommodation on our own during the last days on the islands. I get to know it before and I don't go crazy to an agency after seeing the prices per stay - 500 bolivars on average with breakfast and dinner - and the availability of flights even in high season.
During the five days at Los Roques we did what one expected. Enjoy the beaches, batter in the white sand, enjoy the crystal clear waters and chase fish, starfish and other Caribbean animals snorkeling.
