A visit to Bilbao generally becomes a trip focused on knowing the capital of Biscay but, did you know that a short distance from Bilbao you have great beaches and some cliffs waiting for you? Definitely, visit the cliffs of Sopelana It is a highly recommended getaway to escape the crowds and enjoy nature.
Just 20 kilometers away from the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao we find the Sopelana coast. A spectacular contrast with the cement that wild nature brings to the traveler. Along its coastline we will discover a beautiful landscape that alternates beaches and cliffs. An ideal environment to alternate the daily visit through the streets of Bilbao with the practice of sports such as hiking, surfing, paragliding, cycling or simply vegetarian on the beach sand.
In Sopelana there are four beaches, some with strong waves like those of Barinatxe and La Salvaje Ideal for surfing. However, it is convenient to have a medium advanced level since the strong current can make us some bad trick with the rocks.
On the other side of the imposing walls of Sopelana we find the nudist beaches of Arrietara and Atxabiribil. They are more collected between the cliffs of Sopelana.
Overhead and overlooking the beaches and the ocean we found a great walk around the cliffs which can be done by bicycle, running or taking a quiet walk with the camera in hand.
