The Elipsos trenhotel restaurant that runs the Madrid-Paris route.

Upon entering, the staff attended to give us the keys to our compartments that had been reserved in the wagon of Grand class. As the name implies, it has the best performance: single bed (it can be doubled in case of being occupied by a marriage), bathroom with shower, toilet and bath kit included, press, dinner and breakfast on board the train.

The Other options They are:

  • Super-recliner armchair.
  • Tourist bed: compartments with 4 beds (separated by sexes) with washbasin but without any other benefits.
  • Preferred: compartments with two beds, sink inside, personal hygiene items and press. Breakfast included in International route.

Curiously, I have checked prices on the web and always Grand Class has a lower price than Preferred, which I do not understand very well.

We left our things in the compartment and went to chat to the cafeteria car. It was a splendid afternoon in Spain and we looked at the forests and fields of the Castilla y León area. We saw the imposing walls of Ávila, Valladolid and Burgos before nightfall and our view from the window was reduced to a few lights here and there.

Our Dinner It was for the 8 o'clock shift and the hungry stomachs were glad they didn't have to wait until 10, appointment for the second shift.

The letter offers a First, main course, dessert, coffee and drink. All dishes, of high quality, are cooked at the moment. On the way there I opted for a scrambled shrimp, followed by some tasty pork tenderloins and a dense chocolate cake. All washed down with a bit of Rioja.

On the way back I tried the asparagus with salad, a fillet of sea bass with accompaniment and fruit of the time. After several days of good eating in France, you can see how my choice was much lighter than on the way.

Both nights we chatted at the table until after midnight and then paraded one by one to our compartments.

Sleeping on a pendular train is always a small challenge. The thing moves a little but the beds are really comfortable and, although it cost us a little more for everyone to fall asleep, on the way back, being rendered, we sleep like babies.

It is a great way to travel if you have time, comfortably contemplating the beautiful landscapes of the French countryside and northern Spain while letting your thoughts fly freely.
