These are the views you find at the entrance to the park

You get to Guatemala from Madrid after almost 12 hours by plane and, for those things that reminded us of Willy Fog's movie, it turns out that the local time is almost the same as when you left Spain. It was half past four in the afternoon and we managed to stay awake for a while to minimize the effects of the jetlag. Sitting in the hotel hall, we reviewed our program with our dear guide Luisa.

That's how I learned that during the first morning of travel I would try the canopy modality (or zip line) for the first time. I had gone through several countries where I also practiced a lot but, for some reasons or others, in the end I had never tied myself to a cable that transports you, suspended in the air, for a few hundred meters.

I woke up at 4 in the morning and waited anxiously for the first lights of dawn to enter through the large window of my room at the Holiday Inn of Guatemala city. As a protest for my impatience the day came loaded with clouds. I had a quick breakfast, we rode in our van and the great Byron set out to drive the 155 kilometers that separate the capital from the country Sololá department Where is he Chuiraxamoló ecological park.

Alex giving us the explanations about the park

The town where it is located is called Santa Clara and the best way to access the park is by private transport or as part of a tour.

We arrived at Chuiraxamolo about 9 in the morning and Alex was waiting for us near the main park booth. After the presentations of rigor began to explain the characteristics of the ecological park with a joviality and encouragement that infected the most must of the place.

The Chuiraxamoló ecological park, created in 2003, is located in an enviable natural enclave. Hills, jungle, volcanoes and the imposing and immense lake Atitlan, around which life is concentrated in a multitude of small towns with names of apostles. I will tell you about life in the lake in the next article.

This natural work of art means that the park can offer a wide variety of activities to the visitor. For the more adventurous they have the Canopy and rappeloffering bird watching, mountain biking and trekking for those who are not so friends with adrenaline shots. It also has areas enabled to perform camping.

Poster explaining the legend of Chuiraxamolo: “A man desperate for the death of his beloved went to the elder grandfather and he took him to Xib'alb'a to find her. Her spirit asked her to wait for her on the highest hill. In her wait she arrived transformed into a green fly, but he didn't recognize her and hurt her. Every component of nature, from the smallest to the largest, deserves your respect. ”
