The impressive Iguazu Falls. For me nothing wins this in the World

I will take advantage of the fact that September and a half of Spain have just returned from their vacations to ask you to do something a little more complicated than that typical writing we did at school (that the same thing is no longer done, because one continues to feel as young as Peter Bread but your ID begins to say otherwise): "What did you do on your summer vacation?". Although something more adapted to the matter at hand in our blog: "What do you look for when you take the backpack - or suitcase - and go to another country?".

A few days ago I was traveling to Madrid with some 23-year-old kids in a shared car - blessed invention - and they sewed me up to questions about what I was doing at this time in my life: traveling and writing. There were stories of anecdotes that have marked my trips since 2004, when I began my series of long trips with a backpack. Some of the adventures that I told them I remembered as if they had happened the afternoon before but, in fact, they have already passed a whopping 10 years since, for example, we ran over that vulture that almost took us to visit a jail in the Indian region of Rajasthan.

That same night, when I finally dropped my body into the soft bed of my uncles' house guests, I dedicated myself to thinking about what I had changed on each of those trips. Not only the obvious and personal change - such as the fact that I have spent four years dedicating myself to something that gives so little benefit and so much economic insecurity - but also in the way I travel.

The Twelve Australian Apostles at sunset, another wonder of nature

I don't care if they call me a tourist, traveler, backpacker, lost, wandering soul ... Call it what you want, but in any case, whatever it is, my traveler / tourist / backpacker has varied during these ten years.

It was 2004 and I looked incredulously at the bunch of airline tickets in my hands. The Irish taxi driver, meanwhile, gave himself up to the impossible mission of trying to start a conversation with me. I passed them in front of me as you do when you have that notebook with a drawing and you pass its leaves at great speed by pressing with the thumb the lower right corner, showing you the little doll in motion. London, New Delhi, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Sydney, Auckland, Santiago, Chile, Lima, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Dublin and Rome were the cities that appeared before my eyes.

It was my first trip back to the World and it would last almost six months. On that trip my great friend accompanied me, from childhood, Rober and we both looked for the same thing: dream landscapes, meet other cultures, some party here and there and go on adventures.

The fauna of the place is another good reason to visit a country. Especially if they are koalas like this one
